‼️ Be careful; sometimes the GPS directs you to the wrong side of the river! Instead of using the GPS address, enter '2300 Blaeberry Road' into your GPS. When you arrive at this location, you will see our street on your left: Hedges Road. Turn onto Hedges Road and continue. My driveway, located at 2321 Hedges Road, will be the first on the left (right now, there is a 'for sale' sign in front of my driveway!).

Thank you for putting all used sheets in the washing machine, then in the dryer (on the bedding setting for both) and leaving them in there so we can retrieve them upon our return.

House Keys

Please leave the keys on the kitchen counter.

Cleaning

Thank you for cleaning the house as much as you can. If you don’t have time to clean everything, please note that the cleaning lady will come right after your stay, and it takes her about 6 hours to clean the entire house. Please leave $200 for cleaning fees at the end of your stay for Amy, our cleaning lady. However, if you have cleaned and left the house tidy, we will refund you the difference based on the time she spends cleaning. Thank you for your understanding!

While your stay

Before your stay

Check Our Basement Storage

In the basement, we have a room where we store our supplies for the year, such as potatoes, apples, squash, etc. If you stay for more than a week, could you please check to ensure nothing is rotting or that there is nothing unusual? If a squash or a potato seems to be rotting, please throw it away.

Water the Plants

Once a week will be sufficient! Thank you! :)

Liability Insurance

We prefer that our guests have liability insurance; it's not mandatory, but it is reassuring. What do you think?

Car Insurance (if car exchange)

We advise you to get car insurance just in case. Additionally, it is mandatory in British Columbia to add the driver to our insurance to drive our vehicle, so we will need a copy of your driver's license.

Miscellaneous

We live in the middle of the forest, and of course, this has its advantages, related to the view and the enjoyment of our five senses, but it also has its drawbacks: sometimes we have mice or spiders in the house, or intruders raiding the garbage cans, which are otherwise well-protected.

Don't panic about the mice; they are completely harmless. It happens in phases, and we have a box with traps for the mice—they love peanut butter.

We leave 2 traps in the hot water heater room.
We leave 2 traps in the kitchen under the heating plate.
We leave 2 traps in the basement (food storage area).

If you stay for more than a week, please check them to avoid leaving a dead animal :)

The heating is automatic, and the thermostats are set to a temperature of 19°C.

The heating is completely turned off from April to October; if you desire electric heating, please let us know, and we can calculate the additional cost.

For the months of April or October, you can, however, start one fire per day in the morning to warm up the house a bit! But you will quickly see that the house heats up fast due to its design! We prefer to wear a sweater rather than consume wood or electricity.

Thank you for checking the FAQ for the use of the wood stove!

Our Car

If we agreed on a vehicle exchange, here are some details to consider:

1. Entry Code: 68127

2. In Winter: The pickup is equipped with studded winter tires for added safety. However, this does not guarantee the absence of danger‼️. The road between Calgary and Golden can be very hazardous in winter. I highly recommend driving cautiously, at a reduced speed, staying on the cleared snow lane, and continuously activating the 4x4 mode. Here is a video I encourage you to watch to better understand winter driving conditions.

3. ‼️Insurance: Our pickup is a 2019 model, and we strongly recommend that you obtain insurance through your broker. In any case, I will need a photo of your driver's license to add you to the vehicle's insurance. The addition of your name to the insurance will be completed approximately one month before your arrival. Any additional fees related to this addition, as well as potential depreciation of the vehicle, will be adjusted at that time. On average, this represents about €10 per day.

4. Fuel: The pickup runs on gasoline, not diesel. Please refill the tank before your departure.

5. Location: I will text you the exact location of the pickup upon your arrival at the airport.

6. Flat Tires: Please note that insurance does not cover flat tires. You will be responsible in case of a flat. The summer tires are very robust, but the winter tires are standard, so please be cautious.

7. Extreme Temperatures: If the temperature drops below -15°C at night, it will be necessary to plug in the pickup to keep the engine oil warm. A green extension cord is ready for use in the carport.

8. Winter Parking: Please park the pickup under the carport to prevent snow, ice, and condensation buildup.

A Warm Welcome ( Hivers 2024-2025)

Dear traveling friends,

My heart is already joyful knowing you’ll soon be in our little mountain haven!

On the kitchen counter, you’ll find a small welcome note and a surprise—our way of saying we’re glad to have you here. Like many people up here in the mountains, we live with trust and usually leave our doors open. Of course, the keys are there if you’d prefer.

Life here has its own rhythm, with little rituals that make it so charming. You’ll find the WiFi password on the fridge, and our faithful hens are counting on you on Fridays and Sundays—they’ll thank you with delicious fresh eggs!

In winter, the house has its quirks that give it character. The thermostats are set to 17°C (electricity can be a bit finicky in the mountains!), and the bathroom heats up automatically around 8:15 pm—a small luxury we can adjust to your liking.

The heart of the home is our wood stove in the kitchen/living area. It’s become a sort of game for us: keeping the same fire alive for as long as possible! Last year, we only had to restart it five times—a record to beat? If you follow our tips for the last logs of the evening, you’ll wake up to glowing embers ready to spring back to life.

For the winter adventurers among you: snowshoes are waiting in the wood shed, and our fire pit promises magical evenings. And if you’re lucky, look up—the northern lights often dance across our starry sky.

Every morning, when the first rays of sun kiss the mountains, I remind myself how truly special this place is. I hope you’ll feel that same magic.

Make this house your own, and let yourself be swept up by the charm of mountain life.

With warmth and friendship,
